Students have the weight of the world on their shoulders as they walk into our classrooms. It seems like they have a dark cloud of negativity is hovering over them and it has become their sense of normal. I don’t know about you, but on my campus it seems like that dark cloud has sucked the life and confidence out of my students. They have a mindset of I can’t and so they won’t. I believe effect teaching is more that just simply presenting the material. We have to be able to reach our students on a personal level. At the beginning of school I try to “reprogram” my students minds from I can’t to I can. It is important that they understand how they think will translate to what they do. Thusly, in my class my students and I live by the quote I created “I Can, I Will, I Already Did.” Pouring confidence into them has allowed them to believe they can do anything. Also, they kick fear out the door because they first know they can do it, second they are motivated to do and lastly they remember when they were successful. Breaking our student’s giving up habits will not only help them be successful in our classes, but also be successful in life. I CAN, I WILL, I ALREADY DID.
